Mac Miller

I was recently introduced 2 Mac Miller 1 nite after Monday night Youth Group. Other than the language the music was pretty good. Mac Miller is a successful rap artist who is just 20yrs old. He was raised in a Christian-Jewish home. But that does not reflect in his music today.

What we listen 2 truly does impact our lives. We need 2 b careful what he r hearing. There r dozens of Christian rappers out there that r just as good as Mac Miller n better who’s music doesn’t leave a negative impact on u. Some of them worth googling r:

Nickleback

Well as most of U know I am definitely NOT Nickleback's #1 fan. Most of there songs drive me crazy! But I recently heard a song on the radio that I loved. My only frustration was that I was pretty sure it was Nickleback. Sure enuf it was. It was Lullaby. I M consoling myself w/the fact that they only sing it N didn't actually write it LOL

So b4 writing this I googled the lyrics N the video. While the video is fantastic the lyrics made me think of a few things.

"And You're not sure you can take this anymore. Just give it one more try"

"If you can hear me now I'm reaching out to let you know that you're not alone. And you can't tell but I'm scared as hell"

NO-FX

There was a band I listened 2 when I was a teen called NO-FX. You may have heard them but....you may not have. What I mean by that is they were around 4 quite around as a punk grunge band in the 90's. Halfway through high school suddenly everyone knew them. But it wasn't the band I knew. They had a "face-lift". They changed their style from grunge-punk 2 more rap like N trendy. And, although I thought they lost their appeal, they accomplished their goal (I'm assuming) of getting more people 2 know N listen 2 them.

I went through a face lift, a few years later, myself. When I was 18 yrs old I had graduated high school, I was a mom, I had seriously partied, lied, stole, drank, smoked etc. etc. the list goes on N on. Most people don't start, until later teens or twenties, getting into the trouble I did. Well, true 2 my nature I was my own person N didn't care about what other people did or trends. My life was pretty sucky w/a bad boyfriend to boot. I needed a change - N bad!

Chasen

Chasen is a band I discovered today. They R a Christian rock band from Greenville, South Carolina. Their first album was the independent release Another Way of Life. Their song "Crazy Beautiful", charted in the Top 10 on the R&R magazine chart N it was the 22nd most-played song of 2008.

Chasen is an up-beat band that is half punk N half rock. Their music is worth listening 2 N doesn't drag U down into things like sex N drugs. Instead it gives U a better outlook on life N brightens UR mood. Check them out!

TFK

I was listening 2 NGEN radio on his phone on the way 2 work when a new TFK song came on. As this is one of our most favorite bands he txt’d me right away 2 find N burn it. 4 those of U who do not know who TFK is they are a Christian alternative band. Thousand Foot Krutch (or TFK) have release a number of phenomenal albums. My most favorite is “The Flame in all of us”. Take a few minuets this week N check out their music.

Superchick

Emenim vs KJ52

Eminem is a world known rap artist. His lyrics are known by millions of people all of the globe. He is known 4 his hate and anger above all else.

KJ-52 is also a rap artist. You can hardly tell the difference between the two. They are often mistaken @ 1st. But 1nce U hear the lyrics U know there is a diff. He has written 2 songs 2 Eminem called ‘Dear Slim’ and ‘Dear Slim - part2’.

Owl City

Have U ever heard the song Fireflies on Z? A band called Owl City sings this song. I really like this song on NGEN called Galaxies that reminded us of the Fireflies song. After some painstaking searching we found the Galaxies on the net N discovered it was the same singer. It was really neat 2 find out that he was a Christian N on the radio!

Do you say "Hello"?

Here is a song on the radio that I absolutely love. The song is called Hello. It is a catchy very up-beat song that brightens UR mood even without knowing the lyrics. There is a phrase repeated throughout the song, "You're alright Darling but Im here to enjoy the party. I just came to say hello" Although this is refering 2 a girl wanting 2 dance and not meet up with a guy it still gives U something to think about. How often do we just say hello 2 people N then go about our buiseness.

R we just here 2 enjoy our own party N not 2 worry about making sure others feel loved or are okay? How often to we see bullying N not do anything 2 stop it - or worse join in.

Can You Out-Run a Bullet?

There is a song on the radio I have heard. The 1st time I heard the song I was driving N cranked it up. It reminded me of the oldies I loved listening 2 as a kid.

Near the end of the song as I was trying to hear the words I noticed the lyrics, 'all the other kids better run, run faster than my bullet'!! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! Maybe I was wrong...how could a radio station play a song with those lyrics after everything that has happened in the last 15yrs?!

I looked up the song on the net N google the meaning of the lyrics N sure enough the song is about a kid who is disappointed a lot in life N decides 2 shoot the other kids who have better shoes.

The Black Eyed Peas have been a huge hit 4 a number of years. From songs like 'My Humps', 'I Got A Feeling' N 'The Time (Dirty Bit)'. They have made a huge impact on most people under 30. 'The Time (Dirty Bit)' has over 142,794,074 hits on YouTube! How many of their songs have U listened 2 w/o thinking through the lyrics? I have heard many of their songs and as dance is one of my favorite types of music. I find the tunes very catchy and easy 2 listen 2. But what about the lyrics? What R they saying 2 us? What do their music videos show us is acceptable - even normal?

Royal Tailor

There is a song on I have recently fallen 4. It is by a band called Royal Tailor. U may remember them from last week's Wassup. They have a song called "Control". It mentions a dozen or so other singers cleverly throughout the song.

The song is about not letting the world have control of us. About standing out N being different from those around us. Not accepting what the world calls normal.

Learning 2 B ourselves N not another fake, plastic, walking zombie doing N buying whatever the latest trend setting media states as a "must have" .

Hawk Nelson is a Christian rock band from Peterborough, Ontario. That's right they R Canadians! Their music is catchy, upbeat N STELLER! But what does enjoying life mean? According 2 Rhianna's video it means smoking up, drinking, partying, living in a dump, having sex, dressing like a slut, stealing, fighting w/UR lover etc, etc, etc.

Money - That's What I Want

In April, 1960 Barrett Strong had a 1 hit wonder called, "Money (That's What I Want)". This song is obviously about money N his desire 4 it.

Bruno Mars has redone this song N added 1 of his songs 2 it. It is called "Money and Billionaire" He 2 is singing about his want N love of money.

Seems every1 wants N/or needs money. Seems like most every1 spends more money than they earn each month. People just keep going further and further into debt 4 "stuff". Y?
